I had brunch at Commissary last week. Well, not brunch because they don’t serve brunch. Breakfast ends at 11 AM, so when I arrived around 10:55 AM they informed me I had 4 minutes to order bfast! Sigh. Little do they know how much more $ they’d make if they actually had a proper brunch.
Either way, I ate here on a Sunday during which I’d normally have brunch – and it was delicious. They have a few brunch-esque dishes available during lunch so we had hash browns and 2 orders of eggs. We then proceeded to put the egg on top of the hash brown (they wouldn’t do it for us) and it was incredible. The eggs are served poached on top of a delicious tomato sauce. Oysters were delicious and fresh. The eggplant was in a curry soup/sauce and it was phenomenal. It was creamy, warm and nice little spicy addition to the rest of the meal. The fruit & cheese plate was forgettable, but the drinks were divine. I believe I had the blackberry drink – whichever has bourbon in it. Shrimp Po Boy really hit the spot – though I thought it was overpriced for what it was ($16?!).
I’ll definitely be back, just probably not in time for breakfast.
